A harbour ceremony and a restaurant lunch can be a simple wedding. The useful work happens before you book either: check the paperwork, the space and the journey between them.
Start with the marriage arrangements
The NSW Government says your Notice of Intended Marriage must reach your celebrant at least one month before your planned wedding, and is valid for 18 months. Speak to your celebrant about your circumstances and documents before paying deposits around a date.
Check who manages the ceremony location
Different authorities manage Sydney parks and harbour locations. City of Sydney rules apply to its own spaces: booked ceremonies are limited to 35 people including the wedding party, and receptions are not permitted. A ceremony booking does not generally make a whole park private. Check the rules for your exact location before arranging chairs, music or catering.
Book a room that works in the rain
For a restaurant reception, ask to see the actual room and a seated plan for your number. Confirm whether other diners share the space, where speeches happen and what changes if the weather closes an outdoor area. Check access from the street, toilets and a place for anyone who needs a quiet break.
Walk the route before choosing the timetable
Allow time for photos, traffic, parking and guests who cannot walk far. Give the restaurant a realistic arrival window. One nearby ceremony and reception can make a short wedding feel much less rushed.
